Provocation

the teacher gave me this death stare and telling me to shut my mouth. her eyes open wide, nostrils  flared, her hands on her hips, and her mouth wide open with her voice angled at me so i would hear every word she was saying. me sitting there acting like wall every word she just bouncing back with no effect. the teacher continued to flap her lips like a flag in a windstorm. i just continued to pay no attention and just sat there looking out the window trying to figure out what the future had in store for me.

I chose this picture because it goes with my song, and I chose my song because it is annoying.

I chose this picture because this was the way my mom felt after I kept bugging her to make me a sandwich, and the video is exactly what i was doing.

Mom, mom, mom, mom, “WHAT!” she finally responded “Hi!” i said. “really that's all you
wanted to tell me?” “yes” wait, umm ugh never mind. i just continued to lay in bed, it was one of those day where you become a sloth. everything seemed like it was impossible to do, like getting the remote when it falls on the floor, or getting your cup of juice from the table you have 2 feet away, or even simply getting and going to the bathroom. this all seems like mission impossible. again if i wanted something from the kitchen i would call my mom. “mom, mom, mommy, mama, mom.” “what the heck do you want!?” “can you make me a sandwich?” “NO get up and make it your self quit being a lazy bastard!” under my breath i said “fine be like that i never wanted a sandwich anyways.” so i just sat up in my bed and continued to watch TV, it was like i was a baby dumbfounded with the first time seeing my own reflection. no one could interrupt the focus i had on that television screen, except my hunger. so again i tried to beg for a sandwich. ““mom, mom, mommy, mama, mom can you please make me a sandwich i love you so very much!” “NO FOR THE LAST TIME GET UP AND MAKE IT YOUR SELF!” “UGHH, Please!!!!” “NO!!” under my breath i said “fine be like that i never wanted a sandwich anyways. after an hour had passed my stomach was beginning to beg me for food. then finally i got the urge to pee so then i had to get. i used the bathroom and since i was up i made myself a sandwich.

  1. Alexis: “me sitting then acting like the wall every word she said just bouncing back with no effect.” I really liked this line because i can understand how sometimes you just feel like a wall when people try and talk to you. Like the words mean nothing.
I liked that you used metaphors and repetition. When you repeated “MOM MOM MOM” like 5 million times that gave us a taste of how annoyed your mom must’ve felt. And when said “the teacher continued to flap her lips like a flag in a windstorm” that was very funny and i got a visual. They both worked with the story because throughout the story you came off very annoying and funny so adding in these literary devices helped us see that.
Reading this vignette made me laugh and it was very funny. I can relate to the vignette because i’m goofy and i like to annoy my mom sometimes.

  2. Great Job Alexis! I really enjoyed reading your vignette. You did a great job using examples of repetition and concrete images. You had one good example of metaphor: "When you become a sloth", but the other examples were similes. Using the word "like" or "as" to compare something always makes it a simile. "__________is a _________" is a metaphor and "_________ (is) like a _______" is a simile. See the difference? I thought the repetition of "Mom" was hilarious! Nicely done. PS- PROOF READ for errors!
