Daylan Wilson
Leather Bristles, Studs and Acne

The first time I tried putting patches on my vest, they were so sloppy and crooked. I probably have spent at least a day’s time working on them. A lot of times I would cut them off because they were in a bad spot. It’s rather difficult trying to put them on; especially if you sew them on by hand. Most people would spend their time on facebook, homework, or sports, but I’d rather just sew stuff onto my jacket or my pants. The vest also has a lot of memories of good times. Most of those memories are at shows. Over the years it’s taken some wear and tear. But much like everything else, it can be fixed. From jumping off stage to stomped on by others while on the ground. When I’m at shows, I’m still the same person everyone knows and hangs out with. But, now I’m in my own element and I have fun. I can’t conform and do what people tell me to do; I have to do my own thing.

I chose this photo because I like to do flips off stage

I chose this song because I believe that people are being turned into simple minded people who are being herded

Imagine a small anarchist book store on Burnside. Punkers outside smoking cigarettes and drinking. Inside the shop are more people cramped inside. The band blowing out eardrums. The "crack," and "Pop," of the amps cutting out. Around me are people who are labeled “works in progress,” “rejects,” and “burdens.” Refusing to cope with popular trends, we wear clothes are modified to suit our own likes and interests. Sleeves cut off of denim coats, studs and spikes sticking off leather jackets. I wear my vest proudly. Patches and stitches and studs oh, my! If you go to a show you have to have fun other wise what's the point of coming? Punk isn't just the music, alcohol, and drugs; it's about having fun and the brotherhood between you friends when you're there.

I chose this photo because Black Flag is one of my favorite bands

I chose this song because our generation is probably going to be the one that will make the toughest decisions that will either make or brake.

  1. This is a great detail story. You are really enjoy your life. I liked you use onomatopoeia and concrete images to build your story.

  2. Cool photos and songs, Daylan! I think this vignette is a perfect representation of who you are. My favorite line is: "Patches and stitches and studs, oh my!" Its a clever way to use repetition in your piece. What happened to using personification? Nonetheless, this vignette is awesome! Nicely done.
